Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof both face uncertain futures at Manchester United after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag improved United’s defence by signing a centre-back in the summer, with Lisandro Martinez quickly becoming one of the first names on the team-sheet.
However, with Martinez out injured for the rest of the season, Maguire and Lindelof have been given a chance to feature in recent matches. Raphael Varane is another on the injury list.
Neither have caught the eye, though, and United have looked poor defensively as a result. They have not been helped by David de Gea’s form, but I really don’t think anyone wants to listen to excuses when it comes to the chuckle brothers.
According to The Athletic, discussions are due to take place over both players in the summer as neither match the profile of centre-back Ten Hag wants at the club.
Ten Hag has no other choice but to use these players now, but next season we hope there are better alternative options at centre-back.
