There is a feeling that David de Gea will sign a new contract at Manchester United, but there’s also a growing acceptance within the fanbase that it may also be time to move on from the Spanish goalkeeper.

According to Givemesport, the Reds are considering Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as a replacement for De Gea.

The 22-year-old has made 33 appearances for the struggling La Liga side this season, keeping just seven clean sheets, but that has not stopped bigger clubs being impressed by his performances.

However, the Georgia international is under contract with Valencia until 2027, which means the Spanish side are not under any pressure to sell him on the cheap. The report states it could cost £45 million to sign Mamardashvili this summer.

I suspect that United will be linked with a list of goalkeepers between now and the end of the season.

The question is will Ten Hag have the money to buy everything he needs this summer? And, the answer is probably not.

  1. De Gea has been loyal servant of the club, a legend in his own right. This is undisputed. But Man U as a club should learn to appreciate that times for parting always come in life.SAF was good at taking the appropriate actions when he felt it was time. This ethos seems to have bn lost.De Gea simply doesn’t suit EtH’s style of play. It’s glaringly clear but the powers that be don’t seem to see it.Are we missing something here?
