Erik ten Hag provides team news ahead of crucial FA Cup semi-final

Manchester United are preparing for one of their biggest games of the season this weekend as the Reds make their second trip to Wembley for the campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s men will face Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-final of the FA Cup, with a win potentially setting up a mouthwatering final against Manchester City.

United will be aiming to bounce back from the disappointing collapse in Seville earlier this week but will face the stern test of overturning a brave Brighton side, who are firmly in the run to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Ten Hag is expected to make a number of changes for the game but the Dutchman will be limited in his options in some areas, with injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez meaning that Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could keep their places.

Bruno Fernandes will return after he served a one-match suspension in the Europa League, a welcome boost for Ten Hag after he learned how disjointed United’s midfield looks without the Portuguese star.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag remained tight-lipped about his team news for the trip to Wembley, insisting he will have to see how players react to training first.

“It is so short after the [final] whistle in Seville so I can’t give a comment on it.” Ten Hag is quoted as saying on the official Manchester United website.

“We didn’t train [yet], after training I will know more.”

SN’s verdict…
Anthony Martial’s fitness is certainly one Ten Hag will be keen to learn more about after the Frenchman sustained yet another injury in Seville.

Martial has only recently returned from a long-term injury absence, having previously spent the majority of this season on the sidelines.

Marcus Rashford made a welcome return to the pitch against Sevilla, playing the entirety of the second half. Hopefully, the 25-year-old made it out of that game unscathed and is fit to feature against Brighton.
