Manchester United joined by Bayern Munich and Chelsea in race to sign €100m striker

Manchester United are on the hunt for a striker this summer, with Wout Weghorst expected to return to Burnley following the end of his six-month loan arrangement at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has been without a consistent goalscoring centre-forward this season and that area has been identified as one of the departments Ten Hag is keen to strengthen this year.

Last season, United’s priority was to reinforce the midfield and the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have certainly done that.

This year, it’s highly likely that most of United’s efforts will be placed on landing a long-term striker option and Victor Osimhen, the Napoli star, has reportedly been earmarked as the prime target.

Osimhen has been linked with a move to United for the last couple of months and now, reports from Germany suggest that Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals Chelsea are also monitoring the situation.

That’s according to German reporter Patrick Berger, who says that Osimhen is a big fan of the Premier League but he would not be opposed to returning to the Bundesliga after a brief spell there at the start of his career.

It’s also added that Osimhen’s partner is born and raised in Germany, which could potentially impact any decision Osimhen makes on his future.

A move for Osimhen would, however, not be cheap for any side as it’s reported that Napoli would demand more than €100m, which would almost certainly make the Nigerian superstar a record transfer for United.

Earlier this year, Everton and Nigeria star Alex Iwobi revealed that Osimhen had asked about life in the Premier League, admitting that his international team-mate may have ambitions to play in England.
