Manchester United loanee Jack Butland is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace are satisfied with Vicente Guaita, Sam Johnstone and Jack Whitworth as their goalkeeper options going into the 2023/24 campaign.

As a result, Butland – who joined United on loan in January — is unlikely to be offered a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in July.

Butland is currently second choice at United following Tom Heaton’s injury, but I wouldn’t expect him to stay at United beyond his loan.

The one positive Butland has on Heaton is that he’s six-years younger, but there must be a reason the latter was our primary back-up option since January.

Meanwhile, there’s uncertainty over David de Gea’s future and Dean Henderson looks likely to leave in the summer.

It goes without saying that we shouldn’t be signing a goalkeeper that is considered fourth-best at Palace!
