(Video) ‘Complete lies’ – Bruno Fernandes addresses criticism from pundits after Liverpool loss

Bruno Fernandes has addressed the criticism for his behaviour during Manchester United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool in March.

The Portuguese midfielder came under fire for his antics in the dismal defeat at Anfield, which was undoubtedly one of United’s darkest days in recent years.

Gary Neville, who was on commentary for the game, claimed that Fernandes had asked to be substituted in the closing stages of the game, when the Red Devils were trailing 6-0. This consequently saw the player face flurries of hate and abuse following the match.

However, it was later confirmed that this wasn’t the case, and Fernandes was instead asking for clarification on his position after Marcus Rashford left the pitch and was replaced by Anthony Elanga.

Fernandes on outside criticism

Regarding the match, he said: “We all know when a team loses everyone is trying to find out who was the problem or who is more responsible for that. I think football for us, inside the pitch, it’s everyone responsible in the same way and not one player.

“Obviously, I’m okay to take the focus on the 7-0 defeat, I have no problems having people talking about me, bad things, because I’ve grown up knowing that no one will help you apart from yourself and your team. Forget what’s coming from outside because most of the things said after that game were complete lies.

People supposed that because I waved my arms or did a signal, they supposed that I said something that I didn’t say. As I said, the pundits always want to say something bad, they want to get attention and credit from the people outside and sometimes they say things just to say.”
