Lisandro Martinez has spoken out about his season-ending injury setback.
The Argentinian has been one of Manchester United’s most pivotal and influential players since he arrived last summer but he will not feature again for the club this season after fracturing a fifth metatarsal in his foot.
The news confirmed fans’ fears after Martinez sustained the injury and was unable to walk himself off the pitch during Thursday’s Europa League clash with Sevilla.
However, viewers had initially speculated that the issue looked like an Achilles rupture, which would’ve seen him sidelined for several months and the majority of next season, whereas his actual recovery timescale should see him fit for the start of the 2023/2024 campaign.
Martinez breaks silence on injury
Yesterday, the 25-year-old took to Instagram to send a message to supporters.
“Not the way l imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them. I know that I’ll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support all my teammates to achieve our objectives. The number of messages and support I’ve received has been amazing, they’re giving me strength and encouragement at this moment. Many, many thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”
Raphael Varane is also a doubt for the coming weeks, so Erik ten Hag will now turn to Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and perhaps even Luke Shaw to take the reins at centre-back for the upcoming fixtures.
