Diogo Dalot scored the second goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, which put United six points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham and the Reds also have a game in hand on the London club.
Dalot will go down as the goalscorer but the second goal was all about Antony, with the Brazil winger capping off a stunning afternoon with the assist for that goal.
Prior to the all-important second goal, Antony had opened the scoring in the first half with an easy finish. Speaking after the game, Dalot praised his team-mate.
“It was special, the moment of the goal was important as well, 2-0 made it more comfortable. It is always special to score for this club,” Dalot told Sky Sports, via the BBC on his goal.
Quizzed further on his celebration with Antony, Dalot explained what it was all about: “It’s our little thing. He had a fantastic game too, he is getting rewards from his effort all season,” he said.
SN’s verdict…
This win is far more significant than it seems and three straight wins in the Premier League have been crucial to undoing the damage a three-game winless run did prior to that.
Antony has been at the heart of most of the good that have come from United in the final third recently as he looks to finally have found his feet at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, despite their stunning link-up in today’s game, the Brazilian seems to have struck a connection with Aaron Wan-Bissaka down the right-hand side. Evidently, it’s far more efficient than when Dalot plays at right-back.
