Erik ten Hag previews his 50th game in charge of Manchester United

Erik ten Hag takes charge of his 50th game as manager of Manchester United this evening.

The Red Devils take on Sevilla in a Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie. To make the occasion more special, the manager will be surrounded by the Old Trafford faithful to mark his personal milestone.

Throughout his tenure so far, Ten Hag has overseen 35 wins, six draws and eight losses. He ended a six-year trophy drought in February after guiding United to Carabao Cup success and now faces the prospect of further silverware given the team’s involvement in the remaining competitions.

Tonight provides a chance for the Reds to get one foot in a European semi-final, whilst next Sunday holds another trip to Wembley to take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup semis.

In the Premier League, United sit fourth-placed and are favourites to finish in the top four.

Ten Hag previews his 50th game as United boss

Ahead of this evening’s clash with the Spanish side, Ten Hag sat down with MUTV to preview the game.

“Sevilla haven’t had the best of seasons domestically but they have a great record in the competition. They have a good European home record so how big is this match and how good will it be to take a lead to Spain?”

“Absolutely and we are fully aware of it: how good they are. They have the record of Europa League winners and if you want to beat them, you have to give your best performance and you have to do it in two legs. First, we have to start tomorrow and we need a good result and that result is only a winning result. We are fully aware of that and we have to give our best.”

“It will be your 50th match in charge of United already, that shows how many games you have helped us be involved in by fighting in four competitions this season?”

“Yeah, but I think that is what Manchester United stands for. We want to compete, we want to win every game and that has to be our culture, to win every game and that is what we have done throughout the whole season and that’s why now we are where we are now. We are in the situation where we have already collected one cup but we want to get more. We are in the position to do it so we have to compete and we have to battle for it.”
