Erik ten Hag will prioritise a move for a forward in this summer’s transfer market but the Dutchman must address the midfield as well, with several players potentially leaving the club.
Scott McTominay has two years remaining on his contract but amid a lack of playing time, Newcastle United are said to be readying another move after failing with an attempt in the January window.
Fred is out of contract at the end of next season and as things stand, on-loan midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is expected to return to Bayern Munich when his half-season arrangement expires in two months.
It is, however, being reported that Sabitzer is pushing to stay at the club after a promising start to life at Old Trafford. That’s according to Football Insider, who say that the 29-year-old has settled well in Manchester.
As per the report, manager Ten Hag is a ‘huge fan’ of Sabitzer and believes the former RB Leipzig star would be a good addition to the squad and dressing-room.
Furthermore, it’s added that all parties involved in any potential deal are keen to wrap things up quickly, with the player informing his representatives to agree a permanent transfer.
Bayern Munich are said to be open to letting Sabitzer leave the club permanently if their asking price is met, with the Bavarian giants currently demanding £25-30m.
SN’s verdict…
Sabitzer has done well since he joined the club and has provided Ten Hag with much-needed cover at a time when United’s midfielders were dropping like flies.
Casemiro has missed a total of eight games through suspension this season and Eriksen only recently returned from a serious ankle injury, which kept him out of action for nearly three months.
