Erik ten Hag has provided a brief injury update on Luke Shaw.
The defender left the pitch around the 36th-minute mark during Manchester United’s clash with Brentford this evening, which resulted in a 1-0 win for the Reds.
Whilst the three points were a relief and it meant United returned to the top four, fans were left with a major concern regarding Shaw’s substitution and the severity of the situation. Before being replaced by Tyrell Malacia, the 27-year-old was spotted clutching his hamstring.
It comes just a day after Shaw put pen to paper and committed his future to the club by signing a four-year contract extension, keeping him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2027. He has been a Red since 2014 and marked a personal milestone tonight as his inclusion in the starting line-up saw him make his 250th appearance for the Red Devils.
Ten Hag on Shaw’s injury
Post-match, Ten Hag was quizzed on the No.23’s fitness during an interview with MUTV.
“In this moment, I can’t give something about it because we have to wait for 24 hours, then you can make the right diagnosis. So I don’t want to comment in this moment.”
He later added at his press conference: “I can’t say in this moment. I wait for tomorrow what is the diagnosis. I took him straight off and didn’t want to risk [it]. But we have to wait for the outcome.”
