Manchester United have tied down left-back Luke Shaw on a new contract until 2027.
Although Shaw has hit a patch of poor form in recent matches, the England international has been very good for the most part of this season.
You won’t find many better left-backs in the Europe, let alone the Premier League, so it’s good news for United that Shaw has agreed new terms.
The 27-year-old joined United from Southampton for a fee rising to £31 million in 2014. It’s been a good invest with the left-back set to make his 250th appearance for the club this week.
“I think it’s a good message,” Ten Hag told reporters, as per Manchester Evening News. “England international, he’s doing really well this season, really happy with him. He’s a modern full-back but can also play other positions, can play left centre-back.
“He absolutely matches the standards we want to have. It sends a very good message.”
United won’t need to worry about the left-back department this summer, but the same can’t be said about the right flank. Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have a lot to do if one of them aims to be first choice right-back next season.
Fingers crossed Ten Hag has the money required to buy a better right-back as well as priority signings in other positions.
