Manchester United ready to let defender leave despite promising half-season

Manchester United are ready to let defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka leave the club this summer despite his promising second half of the season, according to reports.

Wan-Bissaka failed to start a single game before the campaign was paused to accommodate last winter’s World Cup, with Diogo Dalot instead impressing and making himself undroppable.

Dalot picked up an injury in Portugal’s final World Cup match, however, and missed the resumption of club football in December as a result.

That gave Wan-Bissaka the chance to impress and reclaim his place and it’s safe to say that the 25-year-old grabbed that chance with both hands.

Over the second half of the season, Ten Hag has opted to alternate between the two full-backs but there are no indications that the Dutchman is planning to use either of them in the long term.

Now, it is being reported that Wan-Bissaka could still be leaving Old Trafford. That’s according to The Athletic, who say that the former Crystal Palace star is still on the market if a suitable offer is made for him.

As per the report, United will listen to offers made for Wan-Bissaka and signing an attacking right-back is on the list of priorities for this summer’s transfer window.

Earlier on Monday, it was reported that United were keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, with the club even holding early talks with the defender’s entourage.

That certainly spells trouble not only for Wan-Bissaka, but also for Dalot. Both players have just one season remaining on their current contracts. United do, however, have the option of extending Wan-Bissaka’s deal for an additional season.
