Manchester United’s midfield was non-existent against Newcastle on Sunday.
The Magpies took all three points at St James’ Park, winning the match 2-0, and leap-frogging United in the Premier League table.
Some of Erik ten Hag’s decisions were questioned in the aftermath of the game.
Fans were left baffled by his decision to end the match with one centre-back, as well as his decision to play Scott McTominay further forward in midfield than Bruno Fernandes.
It didn’t help that Marcel Sabitzer also had a nightmare in the middle.
Speaking on Monday Night Football about United’s midfield against Newcastle, Gary Neville criticised the midfield three for being overrun and outplayed.
“That three in midfield of Manchester United shouldn’t have been overrun and outplayed like they were,” Neville said.

It goes without saying that United missed Casemiro, but I wouldn’t overlooked the fact Christian Eriksen has yet to return from injury.
We’re playing games without our two best midfielders knowing that Ten Hag is likely to sign a new midfielder or two in the summer.
