Premier League rejects £15m Netflix series deal

Premier League clubs have rejected a bid from Netflix to produce a series focusing on England’s top flight over three seasons.

Netflix has already filmed success programmes in sport such as Formula 1: Drive To Survive, but a proposed series on the Premier League has been rejected. It offered £5 million-a-season, as per The Times.

Six to eight Premier League clubs would have been involved and given the programme makers behind-the-scenes access.

While I am sure there is appetite for this sort of thing, it sounds like the Premier League is holding out for a better offer. The Times understands that they want a bigger deal to attract more support from the 20 clubs.

There is also a belief that it could have a negative impact on next season’s domestic TV rights auction if broadcasters believed Netflix had too much access.

All things considered, the timing doesn’t make sense but we can expect Netflix to come in with another offer in the future.
