Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
The England international could see his contract at Chelsea expire at the end of next season and the uncertainty over his future could lead to him being sold in the coming months.
Chelsea won’t want to lose Mount on a free transfer, which means they could be forced into cashing in if there is no sign of a turnaround in negotiations over a new contract.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool are rated as favourites to sign Mount, but Manchester United are also following his situation closely.
The report states that Mount is interested in linking up with his former manager, Thomas Tuchel, who was recently made Bayern Munich manager.
Chelsea need to start thinking about bringing in fund after spending over £500m on signings since being bought by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital last year.
SN verdict
I don’t think a player like Mount is needed – so unless United think a deal represents good value for money, I think we have other priorities in the transfer market that should take a focus.
Mount doesn’t excite me one bit.
