Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof has revealed he had to receive treatment after playing in a EURO 2024 qualifier.

The Sweden captain played the full 90 minutes against Azerbaijan as his side saw out a 5-0 win last night, just three days after suffering a 3-0 loss to Belgium.

Post-match, Lindelof told the reporters about an injury concern that flared up on the pitch during the game. He said, as per the Swedish outlet Aftonbladet:

I broke my toe in September and I felt it tightening out there. It was with the national team in September, I got a stamp so I broke it. It hurt for a while, I had to take some painkillers. I could play, but only [if I] had a size bigger on the shoe.”

Lindelof has fallen in the pecking order

Despite being a key player for his national team, the centre-back has seen his minutes limited this season due to the scintillating partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. In the Premier League, he has made just five starts across the campaign so far and a further four as a substitute.

Still, Lindelof is not one to kick up a fuss and is reliable when called upon by Erik ten Hag, especially in competitions like the Europa League and FA Cup, when the manager sometimes opts to rotate his starting 11.
