Boost for Manchester United as Christian Eriksen nears return

Manchester United could have Christian Eriksen back in action as early as next weekend.

The Denmark international has been ruled out since suffering ankle ligament injury in Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading in January.

It was expected at the time that Eriksen would be sidelined until late April, but the midfielder is back training and The Mirror believe he could even make the bench for United’s game at home to Everton a week on Saturday.

That would be a welcome boost for Erik ten Hag’s side ahead of a busy end to the season.

Speaking about his recovery, it sounds like everything is going to plan for Eriksen.

“It’s going well,” Eriksen is quoted as saying via The Mirror. “I’ve just started being outside, with football boots on. Then we take it from there, that’s the next step. I’ve been in the gym for some weeks and now it’s time to do the next rehab session outside.

“It’s weird not being on international duty, you’re normally away and now it’s more the thing you’re following your national team and you’re here instead of being with them. That’s weird, but it has happened before so you get used to it. But, still, you enjoy it less.”

Although United won the Carabao Cup final and knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League in Eriksen’s absence, he is a player that makes us tick in midfield and he’s been a huge loss.

Our levels of performance should pick up again when he returns to full match fitness.

Hopefully Eriksen gets a chance to play in a final this season. We would all love another day out!
