Paul Parker accuses Gareth Southgate of disrespecting Erik ten Hag

Former Manchester United full-back Paul Parker has accused England manager Gareth Southgate of ‘disrespecting’ Erik ten Hag by selecting Harry Maguire in his latest England squad.

Not only does this seem like an extreme view – since Maguire has been a consistent servant for the Three Lions under Southgate – it also sounds like a stretch of the imagination to take Ten Hag will take any offence by Southgate’s decision.

Parker told BonusCodeBets, as per the Manchester Evening News: “I think that Gareth Southgate has disrespected Erik ten Hag by picking Harry Maguire to the national team. It is very disrespectful and a completely wrong decision. Ten Hag has made it clear that he is not good enough for United, so how can he be good enough to play for the national team? It makes no sense. He hasn’t played regularly for a long time now and he is struggling defensively every time he gets the opportunity to play.”

Firstly, Ten Hag will be happy that Maguire will get more minutes under his belt. He’s played a few games recently but there is doubt over his future, so this will be an opportunity for the centre-back to prove himself yet again in an England shirt and maybe even warrant a bigger transfer fee.

Maguire is expected to start against Italy tonight – in a match Roberto Mancini believes is becoming a Clasico, as per The Mirror, though we wouldn’t go that far.

Let us know in the comments section if you think Ten Hag will be taking any offence by Southgate’s selection – now or in the future? We don’t think he could care less but that’s just our opinion and Parker is also entitled to have his.
