Wout Weghorst hungry to win more trophies at Manchester United

You could see how much it meant to Wout Weghorst when Manchester United won the Carabao Cup in February at Wembley. The Dutch striker soaked in the celebrations on the Wembley turf and you could tell he got emotional after winning his first trophy.

In a new interview with club media, as per ManUtd.com, Weghorst says everyone at the club is hungry to win even more trophies after the Carabao Cup feat.

“Of course, we want to be there,” Weghorst said.

“The match against Newcastle [Carabao Cup final] at Wembley was a great experience – a lovely atmosphere in the stadium – it has something special.

“But, like I said, that’s what we want. We want to win trophies.

“The one we have now just showed us that we can do it again; we are all hungry for more, all of us.”

There is no denying that standards have dropped since the cup win. That may come down to fatigue with all of the games catching up on United, but hopefully we can shake off any of the cobwebs that exist and kick on in the race for a top four before worrying about extra trophies.

It’s still something you’d like the team to achieve because we had been starved of any success for 6-years. Under Ten Hag, the mood around that has changed and we’re hungry to keep winning.

United have already booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, as well as the FA Cup, and it is Fulham that stand in our way in the latter this weekend.

Getting into the final four is just one step forward to reaching Wembley for the final, which is exactly where Weghorst wants to be.

Weghorst believes there is a feeling among the team of wanting to achieve even more this season, and he will be eager to do that because he has no guarantees that United will sign him on a permanent deal this summer. Returning to Burnley is unlikely to mean any trophies in the near future for the Netherlands international.

“The FA Cup is definitely in our head to go to Wembley again, and not only play in the semi and the final, but to win it.”

On winning his first trophy, Weghorst added: “When we won it and the trophy was ours, I took a moment to enjoy it and I saw the crowd. These are the moments you will remember, and that is why I did it.”
