Erik ten Hag has quickly become a fan-favourite at Old Trafford and for the first time in many years, the feeling is that the club is moving in the right direction under the Dutchman.

Ten Hag’s side has made consistent progress over the season and last month, United ended their six-year trophy drought when they were crowned Carabao Cup champions.

Ten Hag could add an additional two trophies to his haul this season, with United currently at the quarter-final stage in the FA Cup and Europa League.

The former Ajax boss signed a three-year contract when he made the move from Amsterdam last year and his first campaign has been impressive enough to convince United to reward him, according to reports.

That’s according to The Mirror, who say that Old Trafford officials are keen to give Ten Hag a renewed deal regardless of who ends up acquiring the club.

Sheikh Jassim and his Qatari consortium are believed to be battling Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS firm in a bid to purchase United from the Glazer family and as per the report, both parties believe Ten Hag is the right man to lead United’s rebuild.

The 53-year-old is in the running to be named Manager of the Season in the Premier League and should he pick up another two prizes to add to the Carabao Cup medal, he will have marked a spectacular first season.

SN’s verdict…
Ten Hag was always the standout candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but few outsiders would have been able to predict the impact he has had.

He has been forced to handle a number of sensitive situations, which include Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial final six months at the club and several heavy defeats. Those incidents have been handled with utmost care and professionalism.

On the pitch, United look like a team with identity and that’s down to the tireless performance of Ten Hag and his coaching staff.
