Erik ten Hag expects Manchester United stars to take their chance amid growing list of absentees

Injuries will force Erik ten Hag into rethinking his team selection for the second leg against Real Betis in the Europa League. The manager believes other players in his ranks now have a chance to impress.

Erik ten Hag carried out his usual media duties ahead of the game on Wednesday as the team travelled to Spain for their Europa League clash.

The Reds go into the game with a three-goal advantage after winning the first leg 4-1 at Old Trafford. However, at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, we’re simply looking to get the job done.

Antony, Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho are not in the squad, due to injuries or illness, but Ten Hag is prepared to give other players an opportunity to show what they are capable in a United shirt.

“Yes and I have said that to several players,” Ten Hag told club media, on whether the absentees provide a chance for those who have played less football this season.

“When players get injured, other players have to fill in.

“I think the whole season was not optimum. We lost a lot of players during the season, but every time we put a team on the pitch [we are] really acting as a team who can adjust and deal with setbacks.”

Again, I think this is further proof that we have come a long way since last season. Ten Hag knows there’s still a long way to go, too, and that is why I continue to be excited by his management.

When asked if he would rest some key members of the team against Real Betis, Ten Hag added: “It’s always serious and we will play our best team.”
