Maguire 9, De Gea 8: player ratings from Real Betis 0-1 Manchester United

Manchester United are through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after a comprehensive 5-1 aggregate win over Spanish outfit Real Betis, with a scorcher from Marcus Rashford ensuring another win in the second leg on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag named a strong side for the second leg despite a comfortable three-goal lead going into the game and that paid off, as one of the first names on the teamsheet under the Dutchman scored the winning goal.

Marcus Rashford’s second-half stunner was his 27th goal of the season and his sixth in the Europa League, taking him to the top of the goalscoring charts in the tournament.

The 90-minute affair in Andalusia was scrappy at times and a 15-minute spell in the first half aside, United never look in any real trouble of letting their lead slip.

Man United Player Ratings

David de Gea – 8
Made a couple of very good saves but most notably, he was incredibly quick off his line and stayed sharp on all occasions. Claimed crosses, made himself big and didn’t give the attackers any time. Promising.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 8
Fine defensive performance.

Harry Maguire – 9
Much-needed minutes on the pitch for the captain as he prepares for another spell with England but his performance will have encouraged Ten Hag.

Lisandro Martinez – 9
Continues to dominate just about every single time he steps foot on the pitch.

Tyrell Malacia – 8
Minutes are few and far in-between for the Dutchman right now but he does well whenever he plays.

Casemiro – 7
The last you will see of him for quite a while as he is suspended for United’s next four domestic games.

Fred – 6
Puts himself about as usual but lacked that technical edge.

Bruno Fernandes – 7
Played some good passes to Rashford on a number of occasions.

Facundo Pellistri – 7
Played the entire 90 minutes and he definitely offers something different on the right-hand side. Gives the manager some food for thought.

Marcus Rashford – 8
His stunning season continues.

Wout Weghorst – 7
Keeps up his remarkable run of starting every single game since he joined the club almost two months ago. That’s made even more impressive towards the end of games when he’s still tirelessly chasing down defenders.

  1. What game were you watching giving Maguire a 9???? He was even mocked by the MUTV commentators in the first half when he almost gave a goal away, they literally called him ‘stuck in the mud’.

  2. Maguire 9? I wont even give him a 6. Strikers were running off Maguire and martinez had to cover for him twice or thrice during the match.
I guess he is only good at getting in space for a header but he just cant direct it towards goal, what the point in that. The guy clearly looks out of his depth playing for a high pressing team.
