Fabrizio Romano provides contract update on exciting Man United winger

Manchester United have a number of contract situations to sort out before the start of next season and although some are more pressing than others, it will be Erik ten Hag’s priority to tie his favourites down to long-term deals.

Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred all have just one year remaining on their contract and David de Gea, who is playing his 12th season at Old Trafford, is on course to become a free agent this July.

Facundo Pellistri has two years remaining on his contract but since joining the club in 2020, he has struggled to make a name for himself – until now.

The Uruguay international did not make his senior bow for the club until earlier this year, over two years since he joined from Penarol.

The 21-year-old has impressed in his brief cameos and now, journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his contract situation.

As per Romano, Old Trafford officials are now considering rewarding Pellistri with a new contract before potentially sending him out on loan next season.

It’s claimed that no decision has been taken yet but talks are planned with Pellistri’s representatives next month to map out his future at the club.

SN’s verdict…
Pellistri spent the last two seasons on loan at La Liga outfit Alaves but he was used sparingly by the Spanish minnows. Another loan move could be a good move but if he proves himself as a reliable first-team player between now and the end of the season, Ten Hag could opt to keep him around.

Alejandro Garnacho’s untimely injury could mean that he is offered more minutes on the pitch in the upcoming months and that could be Pellistri’s saving grace.
