Match preview: Manchester United travel to Spain with three-goal advantage

Manchester United make the trip to Spain this week in a bid to secure their place in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Last week, the Red Devils saw out a 4-1 win against Real Betis in a dominant performance under the lights at Old Trafford.

The convincing victory now leaves them with less work to do on Thursday when they line up against Manuel Pellegrini’s men at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Since the game, United were held to a goalless draw when they returned to Premier League action at the weekend against relegation candidates Southampton, whilst Betis also drew with Villarreal away from home.

Two Reds walking on thin ice

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are both one booking away from a one-match suspension, so the Reds will need to be on their best behaviour if they feature in the tie. Given United’s lead, Erik ten Hag may take the opportunity to rest several frequent starters.

Should United progress, the draw for the next stage of the competition will take place on Friday, March 17.
