Erik ten Hag wants to keep out-of-favour defender at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to keep Victor Lindelof at the club this summer following January transfer interest from Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Inter have been linked with a move for the Sweden international again this summer, although reports claim they will make a permanent offer in the coming months. The offer in January included a deal that ran until the end of the season.

Lindelof has struggled for regular game time at United this season following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez. The former Ajax defender has formed a solid partnership with Raphael Varane in the heart of defence this season.

That has limited Lindelof to just nine Premier League appearances this term, which would suggest he is also out of favour in terms of selection.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag is blocking Lindelof from leaving the club because he’s part of his plans for the future.

It may also be the case that Atletico and Inter could move on to other targets after failing to land the Sweden international midway through the current season.

“Atletico Madrid asked for Victor Lindelof in January but then they decided to proceed with Caglar Soyuncu deal; Inter are on different targets now,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“I’m sure Erik ten Hag is happy with Lindelof and will try to keep the player as he did in January. I’m not sure Man United will let him leave, in January it was a big “no”.”

United’s list of centre-backs include Martinez, Varane and Harry Maguire. I would be shocked if we didn’t add to that in the summer.

Meanwhile, let us know in the comments section if you would keep Lindelof over Maguire.
