Manchester United target Portuguese defender after performance against Arsenal

Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a move for Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio after his impressive performance in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last week in the Europa League.

This isn’t the first time there has been links concerning Goncalo Inacio and Manchester United, but he is still a very young defender at 21.

According to Correo da Manha Weekend (H/t Sport Witness), Manchester United hold an interest in the centre-back, with Erik ten Hag supposedly set to bolster his defence in the summer with several players available for sale.

A player like Inacio arriving would raise further concerns for players like Harry Maguire and maybe Victor Lindelof, although the Swede could attract interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the summer.

Inacio has been a regular for Sporting this season, making 22 appearances in all competitions, and the last player we signed from the club went on to become a star at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes needs no introduction as he currently leads the team as our captain in Maguire’s absence.

There is a suggestion in the Portuguese report that United are ready to make their move for Inacio this summer after watching him score against Arsenal.

Sporting are aware of the interest and could ask for €35 million for his signature in the summer.

It is not yet clear if United are willing to pay that amount for Inacio.
