Manchester United hire lead data scientist from Southampton

Manchester United are set to make another staff signing with the capture of a data scientist.

Alex Kleyn, who has been working at Southampton, is set to become Manchester United’s lead data scientist, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United have set out to recruit data scientists, machine learning scientists, analysts and engineers as they look to become the forefront of data analysis in football.

This, of course, is something the club should have been working on years ago.

Kleyn spent six years at Southampton after joining them as a data analyst in 2017. He was promoted to lead data scientist in 2019.

On top of that, Kleyn spent three years at Norwich City, where he worked as a statistician and then as a technical scouting data analyst.

With that sort of resume, it would only be fair to say Kleyn has worked up the ladder in football.

We would like to wish Kleyn the very best of luck at United and hope he can be a major success as part of the staff.
