Marcel Sabitzer sets sights on silverware ahead of Europa League last-16 tie

Marcel Sabitzer has reflected on settling in at Manchester United and his goal of lifting more silverware with the club.

After just six games as a Red, the Austrian won his first trophy when he featured in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley two weeks ago.

United are also in contention for the three remaining competitions and are deemed one of the favourites for the FA Cup and Europa League. For the latter, their quest to the final continues tonight when they take on Real Betis in a Round of 16 first-leg tie at Old Trafford.

Sabitzer is yet to make his debut on the European stage for United and he will, unfortunately, have to wait until at least next week, depending on his recovery, as Erik ten Hag confirmed the midfielder is ruled out of the match this evening with injury.

Sabitzer speaks out on United switch and fixture congestion

He’s looking forward to the challenge though, as he has admitted to MUTV (via the club website) that the club’s hectic fixture schedule has helped him adapt to his new surroundings.

“Every footballer loves the games. That’s good we have a lot of games. We are fit, we are ready and enjoying the moment. One hundred per cent [I can play three games a week]. I saw the comment Bruno [Fernandes] did and it was the same for me. I want to play every day, if possible, I am ready for every game.

“I think, in the knockout stages, there are no easy games, no easy opponents. We have to be ready for Real Betis as well. They are a good team with quality players but I think, when we’re on the pitch, we’ll show our qualities and we will win these games.

“It’s not about getting to the final, we want to win the competition, you know, so it’s a way to go. We are focused on it and we will do everything to get to the final and bring this trophy to Manchester United.

“I just [want to] say a big thank you for welcoming me very well. It was easy for me to come here and feel the support from the first moment on. I said I want to bring trophies to Man United, for the fans, for the club and for us, as a team. That is our aim and we will give our all for that.”
