‘A massive challenge’ – Marcus Rashford previews European tie against Spanish opponents

Marcus Rashford is adamant about Manchester United bouncing back from last weekend’s dismal defeat with a strong performance tonight.

The Red Devils take on Real Betis in a Europa League Round-of-16 first-leg clash at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 8pm.

United having the home advantage for the first meeting gives the team a great chance to build a lead to take over to Spain next week. Being unbeaten in 19 games on home turf, this evening provides the lucrative opportunity to make it 20 and have one foot in a European quarter-final.

Betis’ last game was a 0-0 draw with reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid. Manuel Pellegrini’s side sit fifth in the La Liga table, so a stalemate with Los Blancos is certainly viewed as one point gained rather than two dropped.

Rashford, who is United’s top goalscorer this season, will be keen to add to his tally of 24 goals and nine assists.

Speaking to MUTV via the club website, the No.10 previewed tonight’s game.

“It’s obviously going to be a massive challenge. We expect them like most Spanish teams to be comfortable on the ball, comfortable in possession.

“They are going to bring the game to us and they have been in form at the moment in La Liga. It’s going to hopefully be an exciting game, but we need to do our best to put ourselves in a good position for the tie.

“Like I said to you, your next opportunity to almost redeem yourself as an individual and as a team is the next game. For me, whenever we do lose a game, you just want to be back out on the pitch as quickly as possible.

“We have to be grateful that we get the opportunity to redeem ourselves and we have to try to take that with both hands.”
