Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister is one of Europe’s hottest properties right now after he helped Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year.

Mac Allister has rapidly grown into one of the leading midfielders in the Premier League and naturally, he is being linked with moves away from Brighton.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough under Graham Potter but took the world by storm in Qatar, leading the way alongside Enzo Fernandes in midfield for Argentina.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, via CaughtOffside, Manchester United have held internal talks over the signing of Mac Allister, who would likely put any club back roughly £60m.

It’s claimed that United are on the list of leading Premier League clubs looking to sign Mac Allister, with Manchester City also discussing him as an option. Additionally, Liverpool and Chelsea are both named as possible candidates for his signature.

Jacobs claims that United’s discussions about Mac Allister have, thus far, remained internal and are not advanced yet but he is seen as a cheaper alternative to strengthen the midfield.

SN’s verdict…
United have enjoyed a fine first season under Erik ten Hag and the Dutchman made it his priority to strengthen the midfield last summer – something he is likely to do once more this year.

The Reds are still light in that area and an injury to Christian Eriksen earlier this year immediately prompted the club to sign a replacement with no internal option fitting the bill.

There are also question marks over Scott McTominay’s fitness and Fred’s future at the club. The Brazil international has just one year remaining on his current deal.
