Man UTD looking to replace De Gea with 6ft 5in sweeper keeper

David de Gea’s contract is up at the end of this season and thus far, Manchester United have not exercised their clause to extend his stay for an additional season.

De Gea joined the club in 2011 and has been a mainstay in the side since then, recently breaking the record for most clean sheets held in the club’s history.

It is, however, far from guaranteed that De Gea will remain at the club beyond this summer and now, there are reports linking Aston Villa and Argentina star Emiliano Martinez to Old Trafford.

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper is now keen on taking the next step in his career and joining a bigger club.

“World Champion Emiliano Martinez would like to make the leap to a big club. We are talking about Manchester United for him, considering that de Gea is about to expire,” an excerpt from the report reads.

Martinez recently signed a new long-term contract at Aston Villa and should he push for a move, it would likely be the last big contract of his career.

Villa are in a position to keep Martinez and will not be bullied, as we have seen in recent sales, which includes squeezing £100m out of Manchester City for Jack Grealish.
