You can tell Lisandro Martinez is loving life at Manchester United.

The Argentine defender has thanked Manchester United fans for their support and how welcome they have made him feel at the club.

On the pitch, however, Martinez has settled like a fish in water. A centre-back who belongs in the Premier League and one who sets standards at the highest level.

Martinez signed a five-year contract in the summer, with the option of a further year, and he has quickly established himself as one of United’s most important players. Now the likes of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire only play when there are injuries in the back four.

“Manchester is a club with a lot of history, one of the greatest in the world,” Martinez told TyC Sports, as cited by the Manchester Evening News. “I really enjoy playing here, it’s a source of pride. The support of the people is incredible. As a visitor it seems that we are locals. They are very passionate.

“For me it is a huge pride to play for Manchester United, in the best league in the world, that people feel identified with me… it makes me five everything on the field.”

Martinez also thanked supporters for voicing their support for him at matches. One chant goes:  ‘Tip-toe, through the Kop End, with a cleaver, he’s from Argentina!’

Martinez said: “I get goosebumps when they chant ‘Argentina, Argentina’.”
