(Video) Erik ten Hag delivers final pre-match comments before Carabao Cup showdown

The moment Manchester United fans have been waiting for all season is finally here as Erik ten Hag is preparing to lead his side out at Wembley for their Carabao Cup final game against Newcastle United.

Ten Hag’s men are on a stunning run of form, having eliminated Barcelona from the Europa League just three days ago following a highly dramatic two-legged tie.

Now, the Dutchman has the chance to become the first United manager to win a trophy since Jose Mourinho did so in 2017. Interestingly, the Portuguese manager won the Carabao Cup that year.

Just minutes before the game kicks off, Ten Hag has delivered his final pre-match comments after naming a largely unchanged side to face Eddie Howe’s men.

“Finals are always special,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports before the game, as seen above. “You have to enjoy, get joy from the event and we do and I think you can feel it from the squad and also with me.”

Ten Hag was almost immediately questioned on his tactics for the game and Bruno Fernandes’ role in particular.

“He’s a player who wants to be on the way and he has to do that today as well,” the boss added. “A lot of movement, runs behind but obviously also the core in the middle of the pitch.

“In possession, most important is to get behind their midfield. The second thing, he has an important job to do in defending because they have a good player in that area.”
