Bruno Fernandes lauds game-changing Manchester United fans after defeating Barcelona

Bruno Fernandes has heaped praise on Manchester United supporters after they played a pivotal role in the side’s win last night.

I don’t believe that any stadium across England and potentially Europe compares to Old Trafford on nights like last night. Whether it’s in Europe, the Premier League, the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup, when the fans know the players need that extra push, it’ll be heard from minute one to minute 90.

I remember being at one of our Champions League group-stage games last season when we faced Atalanta. United came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, with all three goals coming in the second half. It was absolutely electric. In those times, you know you’re playing a part in the players’ minds to just keep pushing and find that goal, because they know we’re all waiting on it.

Last night was almost the same, though under Erik ten Hag, things do feel that bit more exciting. Third in the league, a final on Sunday and now the last-16 of the Europa League. The impact he has had on the squad is obvious, but what he’s done for us supporters is a new kind of optimism. It really feels like a new era of United.

Fernandes lauds the Old Trafford faithful

Speaking to MUTV, our captain for the evening reflected on the triumphant 2-1 victory (4-3 aggregate) against fellow European heavyweights Barcelona, and weighed in on what sparked the turnaround to come from behind and win.

I think the early goal and the belief of the fans. You know the push from them was… the stadium was bouncing, and it was amazing once again. I said this many times, it’s really tough to play here as an opponent because I feel how much energy they give us. I can understand how much energy they take away from the opposite team. It’s massive what the fans have been doing for us.”
