Antony and Weghorst to start: predicted Man United line-up vs Newcastle

Manchester United could round off a perfect seven days later this week as they make the trip to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Marcus Rashford inspired his side to victory against Leicester in the Premier League last weekend before United performed a stunning turnaround to eliminate Barcelona from the Europa League five days later.

Erik ten Hag’s men are in terrific form and now, the Dutchman has the chance to end United’s six-year wait for silverware but the former Ajax manager has a number of selection headaches to consider.

The backline almost picks itself, with the only position not fully claimed being right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka started the game against Barcelona but Diogo Dalot was a second-half substitute. It’s anyone’s guess.

In midfield, Casemiro is likely to be partnered by Fred again after the two Brazil internationals impressed against Barcelona. Just ahead of them, Bruno Fernandes will slot in with Marcus Rashord on his left.

Rashford limped off the pitch against Barcelona and seemed to be in some pain. Speaking ahead of the final, Ten Hag admitted that he was not certain Rashford would be available but if he is, he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet.

On the right, Ten Hag has a number of options. Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony all featured in the win over Barcelona but the latter’s game-winning cameo could be enough to earn him a start.

Wout Weghorst has started all games since he signed for the club and that run is unlikely to come to an end this weekend.

Predicted Manchester United line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst
