Alejandro Garnacho close to agreeing five-year deal amid interest from Real Madrid

Manchester United are making positive advances in their contract negotiations with exciting youth prospect Alejandro Garnacho.

According to The Times, the teenager is close to signing a new five-year deal that would see his current weekly wage of £7,000 increase.

The club were quick to begin talks with Garnacho and have him put pen to paper to try and ward off interest from Real Madrid, who were reportedly showing “keen interest” in the youngster. He joined from Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2020 and was born in the Spanish capital, so the prospect of signing for the reigning European champions could have been a tempting one.

Garnacho’s breakthrough season

Garnacho is currently overseeing an outstanding breakthrough season. He did make numerous appearances last term, but Erik ten Hag has awarded the 18-year-old significantly more game time this campaign. He has registered three goals and five assists in all competitions so far, some of which have been crucial to United’s season, like his injury-time winner against Fulham in November.

The Argentinian international already has the quality of a first-team star at such a young age, so his progression will be sensational to watch the more he develops and builds his confidence.
