Premier League team of the week: Manchester United star makes cut after scoring brace

Marcus Rashford will be in conversation for Premier League player of the year this season. There’s no argument to be had over that.

Manchester United boosted their chances of finishing in the top four with a 3-0 win over Leicester City, the same weekend that saw Man City and Newcastle drop points.

It was no surprise to see Marcus Rashford on the scoresheet again as he scored twice against a Leicester City defence that were kept busy, especially in the second half when United went up a gear or two.

BBC Sport columnist Garth Crooks named Rashford in his Premier League team of the week, which consists of three Arsenal players after their dramatic win over Aston Villa.

Premier League team of the week: Navas; Ream, Van Dijk, Bednarek, Zinchenko; Emerson, Ward-Prowse, Jorginho; Saka, Nunez, Rashford.

“Rashford is playing the best football of his career,” Crooks wrote. “He is scoring goals for fun and taking Manchester United places they have not been for years.”

Rashford will be looking to continue his form as United enter a season-defining week. Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle presents a good opportunity to end our wait for a trophy.
