Sabitzer 8, Lindelof 9: player ratings from Man United 3-0 Leicester City

Manchester United have closed the gap on second-placed Manchester City after a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag’s men now just three points behind their cross-city rivals.

The win also puts the Reds eight points clear of Newcastle United, who are in fourth place. Arsenal, the league leaders, are five points ahead of United.

Leicester City made a promising start to the game this afternoon but a double from Marcus Rashford and a lovely strike by Jadon Sancho ensured United kept their good form going.

Man United Player Ratings

David de Gea – 8
Made two spectacular saves in the first half and deserved the clean sheet – he has now equalled Peter Schmeichel’s record of 180 clean sheets.

Diogo Dalot – 7
Will be kicking himself for not scoring in the first half but performed well overall.

Victor Lindelof – 9
Back in the side as Raphael Varane was rested and what a performance by the Swede. Won most, if not all, of his duels.

Lisandro Martinez – 8
The criticism aimed at him after the first two games is looking sillier with each passing week.

Luke Shaw – 8
Another performance fitting for the season he’s having. One of the side’s most important players.

Fred – 7
Growing into an influential player now, another promising outing.

Marcel Sabitzer – 8
His best performance thus far – starting to look like quite the signing.

Bruno Fernandes – 9
Tireless, creative, leader. Two assists and another reminder of how important he is.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Didn’t quite get into the game.

Marcus Rashford – 9
16 goals in his last 17 games and 24 for the season overall. Quite sensational.

Wout Weghorst – 7
The goal was the only thing missing. Presses like there’s no tomorrow and does a lot of things well but just can’t seem to put the ball away at the moment.
