Man United leading race to sign 26-year-old wing-back

Manchester United are ‘in the front row’ to sign Inter Milan and Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries.

That’s according to a recent report from Tuttosport (via Manchester Evening News), who claims the Red Devils, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal, are leading the race to sign the highly-rated wing-back.

Dumfries, 26, will be out of contract at Inter Milan in two years’ time, and with the Nerazzurri aiming to raise €60m, it is expected that the Dutch defender could be the player sacrificed in order to achieve their financial targets.

The 26-year-old is an incredibly attack-minded defender and one that often thrives when playing part of a back five.

Likely to have been identified as a long-term replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who manager Erik Ten Hag has yet to be convinced by, Dumfries would be a decent signing but there are concerns over his defensive capabilities.

Nevertheless, with Ten Hag a compatriot of the Inter Milan number two, as well as the Italian’s need to raise funds, United could find that Dumfries is one of their more attainable targets.
