Manchester United held interest in Stefan Bajcetic prior to Liverpool transfer

Liverpool bounced back from some poor results last night to beat rivals Everton 2-0 at Anfield.

While Cody Gakpo scored his first goal for Liverpool since his January move from PSV Eindhoven, it was 18-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic who got most plaudits for his standout performance against Everton.

It’s not often this season that Liverpool manage to control the midfield battle, but they did that last night with help from Bajcetic. Jurgen Klopp sung his praises in his post-match interview.

Klopp told Sky Sports, as quoted by Football365“I saw a lot of good performances tonight but Stefan showed up. We are really happy with him, a top boy, really smart and calm. He played in a new position, at eight, and I asked him afterwards if he liked it and he said yes. It is a nice story.”

Liverpool signed Bajcetic from Celta Vigo two years ago for €250,000, according to a previous report from The Athletic.

The report adds that Manchester United were monitoring the Spanish youngster but Liverpool, who were scouting him since last 2019, persuaded the young talent to move to Merseyside.

Interestingly, Bajcetic played as a central defender when he was first watched by Liverpool in 2019.

United can’t sign them all I guess!
