Manchester United ‘likely’ to have seven players absent from Barcelona trip

Manchester United could be without seven players for their trip to Barcelona this week.

The Red Devils will fly to Spain for a European heavyweight clash to face Barcelona in a Europa League Round of 16 play-off. United will be away for the first leg (February 16) but will be on home turf for the second leg on February 23, meaning they will have the Old Trafford faithful in full voice and roaring them on throughout the night.

Erik ten Hag must overcome the issue of unavailable players, though. Lisandro Martinez and Marcel Sabitzer miss out due to suspension, whilst Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are ruled out through long-term injuries.

United could be without key trio

Antony, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are all currently sidelined with injuries. The trio were not involved in the Reds’ back-to-back meetings with Leeds United last week, and are currently doubts for Thursday’s trip.

One positive is that Casemiro will be at Ten Hag’s disposal and will have had 12 days rest after serving two of his three-game Premier League ban.
