Team news: Manchester United without three Reds for Elland Road trip

Manchester United will make the trip to Yorkshire this weekend to face longtime rivals Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm.

The clubs will face each other twice in just a three-day turnaround due to the fixture at Old Trafford being rescheduled to earlier this week.

It was a poor showing from the Red Devils, who in the end will see the result as one point gained rather than two points dropped.

Wilfried Gnonto opened the scoring within the opening minute of the match, with United failing to provide almost any threat at all in the rest of the first half. After the interval, Raphael Varane turned the ball into his own net to make it 2-0 to the visitors, before Marcus Rashford headed home in the 62nd minute to inspire a late comeback for the Reds.

Jadon Sancho, who lit up the pitch from the moment he stepped into the game, scored his first goal since September 15 in front of an adoring Stretford End to rescue a point.

Ultimately, United lacked focus and precision throughout the 90 minutes. Erik ten Hag will demand an instant and drastic response from his players this weekend, as a draw from the relegation-nearing opponents is not good enough.

Sunday provides a chance for redemption, though, and the opportunity to send The Whites closer to the bottom three on their home turf can’t go a miss.

Team news for United

Ten Hag confirmed today in his MUTV press conference that Antony, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are all ruled out of the Leeds clash, and he does not expect them to be fit for United’s highly-anticipated Europa League tie with Barcelona at the Camp Nou next Wednesday.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked up an illness that kept him out of the midweek game and it is unconfirmed if he has since recovered, however, Diogo Dalot is fit and will likely start at right-back.

Casemiro will serve the second of his three-match suspension. He will return for the Carabao Cup final on February 26.

Team news for Leeds

Pascal Strujik is unavailable due to concussion protocols after being struck by a Marcus Rashford shot on Wednesday evening. Luis Sinisterra also left the pitch early but could be fit to feature.

Liam Cooper and Marc Roca will be assessed prior to the outing in Yorkshire.
