Former Netherlands manager explains why football coaches love Wout Weghorst

Wout Weghorst has scored just one goal in his first six appearances for Manchester United, but former Netherlands manager Frank de Boer has been impressed by the loanee striker.

The Dutch striker has played a lot of football since his January arrival — on loan from Burnley until the end of the season — and you can see why he benefits Erik ten Hag’s side.

Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this season, Weghorst provides a presence up front and his selfless contributions help attacking players like Marcus Rashford and Antony.

This is why Weghorst is “loved” by managers, according to Frank de Boer.

Fellow countrymen De Boer, who managed the Netherlands for one year, has been impressed by Weghorst’s output at Old Trafford thus far. He also spoke about why he has been so popular at other clubs.

“He [Weghorst] has qualities that others can benefit from,” De Boer told FC Update. “Sometimes strokers are very selfish, but he does so much defensive work. He knows his qualities. That’s why he is so loved by coaches.

“His efficiency is incredibly high. Everyone knows that the Premier League is the competition with the highest level and fantastic central defenders.”
