Manchester United handed huge boost in Premier League top four and title race

This weekend’s Premier League results have catered to Manchester United’s top-four pursuit and, potentially, title race.

The Red Devils picked up their 13th consecutive home win on Saturday against Crystal Palace. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford secured a crucial three points ahead of a forthcoming double-header against Leeds United.

United’s closest competitors in the Premier League all dropped points across the past two days, leaving the Reds in a positive situation after matchweek 22 – but one that they must capitalise on.

Everton 1-0 Arsenal

The league leaders fell short to a rampant Everton keen to perform in their first match under Sean Dyche, and the new boss had his tactics spot on. The Toffees handed Arsenal just their second loss since September at Goodison Park.

United are now eight points behind the Gunners.

Newcastle United 1-1 West Ham

Newcastle extended their 16-game unbeaten streak but failed to take all three points from the relegation-nearing Irons. The Magpies have been the Reds’ closest competitors in the league in recent months and have been matching our results stride for stride until yesterday.

United’s win moved them up to third with 42 points, whilst Newcastle stayed in fourth place following their game with 40 points.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Manchester City

Perhaps the most significant result of them all is Spurs’ win, as United are now just three points behind City having played the same amount of games. Pep Guardiola is still winless at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Harry Kane’s first-half goal today extended that run – much to his dismay.

It’s worth noting that they take on Arsenal on Wednesday, February 15.

Honourable mention: Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

Not that they’re in the top four race after this loss, but worth drawing even more attention to. Marcus Rashford has outscored Liverpool Football Club in 2023.
