Erik ten Hag confirms Marcel Sabitzer will be in squad to face Crystal Palace

Marcel Sabitzer is preparing to make his Manchester United debut against Crystal Palace this weekend. 

The Bayern Munich midfielder joined Manchester United until the end of the season, after a deal between the two clubs was agreed on transfer deadline day.

Sabitzer, 28, had to watch from the stands on Wednesday night when United booked their place in the Carabao Cup final. The Reds go into the game against Crystal Palace after being Nottingham Forest 2-0 (5-0 on aggregate) in the midweek clash.

The journalists at Friday’s press conference with Erik ten Hag and they were eager to learn about how Sabitzer is doing in training and whether he’s ready to make his debut against Palace.

Ten Hag never gives too much away when it comes to his team selection, however, he did confirm that Sabitzer is in line to make an appearance and could even start in midfield.

“Very good,” Ten Hag said when asked about Sabitzer’s first training session, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News“Of course, he did only one session but you can see he’s a very fit player and I didn’t have diff expectations coming from Bayern Munich, German, their fitness is always good. I think he is ready to play.”

A follow-up question saw Ten Hag asked whether the Austria international would start at the weekend.

The manager replied: “I think he’s a really smart player and I think we gave him some guidance but he knows what to do, he knows the job.”

Sabitzer is expected to replace Christian Eriksen in the line-up since his arrival was prompted by the Dane’s ankle injury. As a result, United expect to be without Eriksen for three months.

It sounds like Ten Hag believes Sabitzer can fill the void.
