Two Manchester United players have reacted to the team booking their ticket to Wembley by reaching the Carabao Cup final..
The Red Devils saw out an aggregate 5-0 win across both legs of the semi-final against Nottingham Forest, with the last leg being a 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening – United’s 12th consecutive home win.
They will face an in-form Newcastle on February 26, which will mark the Magpies’ first cup final in 24 years. The side have been one of the most in-form teams across Europe this season and currently have the longest unbeaten streak (Premier League only) across the top-five European leagues with 15 games, which is why you should be checking sportsbook data feeds from Feedconstruct.
Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka had their say on the victory via the Manchester Utd website.
Wan-Bissaka
“I think everyone’s hungry to bring success back to the club and that’s the aim in these cup runs. It would be a great achievement [to reach Wembley]. A step closer to the trophy. That’s what we’re all working towards, and we know it could be an important moment for this team if we do get there.
“You can see the improvement and different style of play [this season], [There is] confidence going forward, so it’s going in a good direction. We’re all happy but there is still improvements to come, and we know we’re still not where we want to be.
“At home it’s always important, there’s an advantage for us because we have our fans by our side to get us through. We’re confident, very confident at home in front of our fans, so that’s something we’re looking at. We’ve played well at Old Trafford this season and we want that to continue. We know the fans will be behind us from start to finish and we’ll give everything to send them away happy.”
Fernandes
“It’s a great feeling [to reach the final], amazing for everyone. We’ve been looking to be in this position for a long time and now we’re getting there. We’re enjoying the moment because it is a big thing; I know a lot of people will think ‘it’s just the Carabao Cup’ for many of them, the ones that are not in the final will think like that. But for us and Newcastle, it will be a big, big match and a chance to win a trophy and we will go there to try our best to bring it back.
“We have a lot of matches coming, so we have to be prepared for that. As I’ve said since I came to this club, the club is about winning trophies and I want that. We want to bring a trophy back to the club. It’s important for us to have competition because you can’t relax, we know how important it is to be in form. To have your place in the team, it costs a lot to be in the starting XI at this moment.
“Everyone has to be pushing themselves to the highest levels to be playing for this club. It is what this club demands, it is what the manager demands, it is what us, as players, should demand from ourselves. This has to be our main focus; that, at home, we know the atmosphere that the fans create, we know how good that can be. It has to be the place that is more difficult to play for everyone. I think we are in a great position to carry on doing that because we have a great team.”
