(Video) Tom Heaton delivers pre-match verdict ahead of just second appearance of the season

Manchester United are 90 minutes away from sealing a return to Wembley, with their 3-0 aggregate lead in the Carabao Cup semi-final tie putting Erik ten Hag’s men in a stunning position.

The Reds have not played at Wembley since 2020 but that three-year run could come to an end later this month, with a possible final against Newcastle United awaiting.

Tom Heaton, who returned to the club in 2021, is gearing up to make his second appearance of the season after Ten Hag slightly rotated his side.

Speaking ahead of the game, the veteran goalkeeper insisted that getting to the final is the most important thing regardless of their three-goal cushion.

“We’re looking forward to the game,” Heaton told Sky Sports when quizzed on the scoreline and chances of reaching a cup final.

“We’re seeing it as a great opportunity to try and get to Wembley but we’ve got to make sure we approach the game in the right manner tonight and it’s something we’re all looking forward to.

“We’re prepared. I think the first game’s gone. We’re looking at tonight as a single game and look to go and win it.”

Heaton also stressed the importance of maintaining United’s promising home form, having been unbeaten in their last 13 home games in all competitions.

“That’s right, I think momentum is the right word,” he said. “We’ve had some strong performances at Old Trafford recently and we’re looking forward to, hopefully, putting another one in tonight.”
