Jose Mourinho has sent a message to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen about what he must do to reach the highest level, while comparing the Nigerian to Didier Drogba.
Speaking to reporters after watching his Roma side lose 3-1 against Serie A leaders Napoli, Jose Mourinho urged Osimhen to stop diving in order to replicate the success of Drogba.
“He is of the same level as Drogba, but Didier didn’t dive. If Victor changes, then OK. I’d buy him if I was at a club with a lot of money,” Mourinho told reporters, as quoted by The Sun.
“However, if he does go to England one day, he needs to change, because in Italy they put up with this sort of behaviour, whereas in the Premier League, they’d come down hard on him.
“I told him that he scored a wonderful goal and needs to stop diving so much. His goal was fantastic, he did the same thing when we met earlier this season, so he’s a fantastic player. But he mustn’t dive.”
Whilst Mourinho sounds like he really cares about getting rid of diving, he has obviously forgotten how this criticism was often aimed against Drogba during his time in the Premier League. Or his FC Porto side that cheated their way to European success in 2004.
That said, Mourinho’s verdict carries weight because he enjoyed success with Drogba at Chelsea.
Mourinho was on the touchline on Sunday when Osimhen scored a stunning volleyed strike to open the scoring.
The 24-year-old has been at his best this season and it is no wonder that reports (via ESPN) claim that he is one of Erik ten Hag’s striker targets for the summer.

Man Utd needs to do everything in the summer to get Victor Oshimen sign for them, he is a top 9, a prolific striker Man Utd have been missing over the years and can’t afford to let Oshimen pass them by.
