Manchester United dominate Carabao Cup Team of the Week XI after rampant display

Manchester United have had nine players included in the Carabao Cup Team of the semi-final first leg after a rampant display against Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils cruised to a 3-0 victory, replicating the scoreline from their first meeting with the Midlands side this season, and have one foot in the final of the competition. Given their current form (one loss since returning from the World Cup) they are strong favourites to see out the job in the second leg, especially in front of the Old Trafford faithful.

Last night it was goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes that swung the first leg of the tie in United’s favour.

It was the club’s first trip to the City Ground in 24 years, the last time the sides faced off on the River Trent, United thrashed their opponents 8-1.

United now have a home clash with Championship side Reading forthcoming on Saturday before the second leg of the semi-final in M16 takes place next Wednesday, February 1. Should they make the final, they will face either Southampton or Newcastle, with the latter holding a one-goal advantage heading into their next meeting.

Reds recognised for their outstanding performance

Nine Reds made the Team of the Week based on Who Scored ratings. It’ll come as no surprise to viewers, as Erik ten Hag’s men dominated the pitch. Those included are De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Martinez (who was awarded Man of the Match), Malacia, Fernandes, Casemiro, Rashford, and Weghorst.
